Meet the Team Dr Fiona Martin PhD MAPS CEDPB.A (Psych), Grad Dip Sci (Psych), Doctor of Philosophy (Medicine) Principal Psychologist / Director Dr Martin is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists (CEDP). Dr Martin completed her education and training from The University of Sydney and received specialised training in developmental disorders from the Department of Psychiatry, The University of North Carolina (USA). Dr Martin's PhD focused on improving the social functioning of young people with High Functioning Autism. Dr Martin has published research studies on problematic behaviours in individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and factors influencing children's ability to report on past events. Dr Martin is highly skilled in a range of therapeutic techniques and experienced in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of difficulties including autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and depression. Dr Martin consults to a variety of organisations, conducts comprehensive assessments, designs and implements treatment programs. She is a trained pregnancy support counsellor and recognised provider with private health funds and Medicare. In addition to her own practice, Dr Martin is Co-Director of the Children's Assessment and Therapy Services (CATS) network. Through the CATS network patients have access to a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and early intervention therapists. Ms Michele Newman Practice Manager Ms Newman has a background in medical administration and an extensive knowledge in practice management. Ms Newman is an intergral part of the Sydney Child Psychology Centre and prides herself in having an amiable and compassionate nature. Ms Newman will be the first point of call for you and she will go out of her way to make the process an effortless experience for you and your family. Associate Psychologists Patrick Bryant MAPS B. Sci (Psych)/B.A (History), PG Dip. Psych, M.Psych (Educational and Developmental Psych) Child and Adolescent Psychologist Mr Bryant is a fully registered Psychologist, full member of the Australian Psychological Society and a recognised provider with the major private health funds and Medicare. He has completed a Masters in Educational and Developmental Psychology and is completing his accreditation to join the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. Mr Bryant's focus is on assessment and intervention of learning and attention disorders, anxiety and depression. Mr Bryant has completed research on working memory and reading comprehension and has investigated body image problems in young Australians. Mr Bryant has received specialised training in Autism Spectrum Disorders assessment tools including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). Mr Bryant conducts comprehensive assessments and offers a range of therapy techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness therapy. Mr Bryant’s last appointment was school psychologist at Trinity Grammar Schoool. Elizabeth Kent Assoc MAPSB. Sc (Psych) (Biol), M. Health Sc (Beh Sc) Child and Adolescent Psychologist Ms Kent is a fully registered Psychologist, associate member of the Australian Psychological Society and recognised provider with Medicare and private health funds. Ms Kent has held positions in organisations with specialist multidisciplinary teams and is experienced in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of childhood developmental, behavioural and emotional difficulties including anxiety, depression, attentional problems, autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability and learning difficulties. Ms Kent is skilled in treating attachment difficulties and truama and is able to assist children and their families experiencing grief and loss. Ms Kent has received specialised training in cognitive behaviour therapy, art and play therapy, behaviour managment techniques and she has completed specialist training in diagnostic assessment tools for autism spectrum disorders, including the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). Dr Fiona McGuigan PhD MAPS CCLIN B. Psych (Hons), M. Psych (Clinical Psych), Doctor of Philosophy (Psychology) Clinical Psychologist Dr McGuigan is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and College of Clinical Psychologists. Dr McGuigan completed a Masters and PhD at the University of New South Wales. Her research focused on the interplay between language and young children’s autobiographical memory development and is published in several international journals. Previously Dr McGuigan worked at Sydney Children’s Hospital providing clinical psychology services in their child and family team. Dr McGuigan has specialised training in cognitive behavioural therapy, parent child interaction therapy and also works from a family systems perspective. She has experience working with parents, children and families in individual and group settings and consulting with schools and preschools. Dr McGuigan has particular interest and expertise in helping families manage separations, adjustment to parenthood, and emotional and behavioural difficulties in early childhood. Dr Katherine Schmidhofer PhD Assoc MAPSB.A (Psych), Grad Dip Sci (Psych), Doctor of Philosophy (Medicine) Child and Adolescent Psychologist Dr Katherine Schmidhofer is a fully registered Psychologist and associate member of the Australian Psychological Society. She has completed a PhD from the University of Sydney and is a recognised provider with most private health funds and Medicare. With years of experience working with children, Dr Schmidhofer's focus is on assessment and intervention of autism spectrum disorders. Dr Schmidhofer has received specialised training in diagnostic assessment tools for autism spectrum disorders and she has received formal training in the Griffiths Mental Developmental Scales-Extended Revised (GMDS-ER). Dr Schmidhofer has received specialised training in the area of Anxiety Disorders and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from Professor Ron Rappe from Macquarie University. Dr Schmidhofer previously worked at Autism Spectrum Australia in their diagnostic and school outreach services. In addition, she has held positions at The University of Sydney, and worked with several service providers implementing individualised behavioural and structured educational programs. Dr Fiona Aldridge PhD MAPS B.Psych (Hons), M.Psych (Clinical Psych), Doctor of Philosophy (Psychology) Clinical Psychologist Dr Aldridge is a fully registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and full member of the Australian Psychological Society. She has completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a PhD from the University of New South Wales. Dr Aldridge's PhD focused on the influence of the media on body image disturbance and eating behaviour. Dr Aldridge has previously worked in schools, hospitals, out-patient clinics and rehabilitation centres. She has worked with children and adolescents for many years and has clinical experience in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. She has received specialised training in diagnostic assessment tools for autism spectrum and other cognitive and developmental assessments, including the Griffiths Mental Developmental Scales-Extended Revised (GMDS-ER). Dr Aldridge has been involved in research into the assessment and intervention of children with autism spectrum disorders. Her research has been published in international journals and she has presented at international conferences. Ms Leila Wearing Assoc MAPSB. A (Psych), PG Dip Psych Registered Psychologist Ms Wearing is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society. Ms Wearing completed her internship at the Sydney Child Psychology Centre in March 2011. She received formal training and supervision from Dr Martin and Ms Schmidhofer in the assessment and treatment of children with developmental, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Ms Wearing is particularly interested in teaching social skills to children and with the asisstance of Dr Martin coordinates our Saturday Social Skills Training program. Early Intervention Therapists Our Early Intervention Therapists work under the supervision of our Psychologists and provide home and centre based therapy sessions for children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities. Our therapists teach communication and social skills, fine and gross motor skills and practical life skills. Ms Clare Williams B.A (Psych), Dip Ed., PG Dip Applied Psych Ms Williams is an Intern Psychologist with both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and Education from Macquarie University. Ms Williams is currenrtly completing the Psychologists registration program through Macquarie University and our centre. Ms Williams' last appointment was Therapist at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (C.A.R.D), prior to this she worked at Uniting Care and Lifeline. As part of her internship at our centre Ms Williams will provide home and preschool based early intervention therapy to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Ms Stephanie Drake B.A (Psych) Candidate Ms Drake is completing a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Macquarie University and has completed training and supervision with Dr Martin in early intervention techniques for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. She is familiar with behavioural, social and communication techniques and structured teaching methods. She currently provides home and preschool based early intervention services to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Ms Alysha Aubin B.A (Psych) Hons Candidate Ms Aubin is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with Major in Psychology from the University of Ottawa. She has completed formal training and supervision in early intervention therapy for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders from Dr Fiona Martin. Ms Krista Zamboldi B. Sci (Psych) Ms. Zamboldi has completed a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from Michigan State University (USA). She has completed formal training with Dr. Fiona Martin in early intervention therapy for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. Ms Zamboldi is familiar with applied behavioural analysis (ABA) and structured teaching methods and provides home and school based therapy to children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and developmental delays. |
